Shobha Kapoor, the Director of Media and Communications at Sesame Workshop India, brings over 17 years of experience in brand management, marketing, and communication. Her strategic expertise has driven impactful partnerships and marketing campaigns, positioning Sesame Workshop as a leader in early childhood education. She excels in crafting clear brand propositions, managing marketing initiatives, and leading content development projects. Shobha’s leadership and innovative approach have earned her recognition, making her a valuable asset in the field of media and education.

She is responsible for the strategy, design, and deployment of all media-related projects, including digital, print, TV, and radio for multi-country and India projects. She leads the development of IEC materials in print and AV formats on Early Childhood Care and Education. Shobha has been solely responsible for building and nurturing the relationship with the national public broadcaster – Doordarshan to successfully distribute Sesame’s content in 7 languages across 12 TV channels (national as well regional channels) and the kids’ media industry in India for Sesame. She has led creative, production, and content development for UNICEF’s radio show in Kashmiri for kids in Kashmir, Jammu & Kashmir, and implemented the ‘Bringing Change in Kashmir’ project through research, mass media content on DD Kashir TV channel and advocacy. She additionally wears a tech hat, leading SWI’s EdTech initiative for the development of an app to deliver home-based learning to children.

Shobha has received an appreciation award from the J&K Bank for her contribution to children’s development in Jammu & Kashmir, the “Kargil Gaurav National Award 2022” by the Union Territory of Ladakh, and Radio City’s Sheroes Award 2023 for continuously driving change in the educational paradigm and putting children at the center of development. She holds a master’s degree in marketing, PR, Social and Behaviour Change communication.
